Nov 20, 2008
Responding to the demand from its member institutions the Center of Excellence in Finance from Nov 10 - 14 successfully delivered a newly developed workshop focused on central banking issues. CEF Visiting Fellow earlier this year Max Watson, a Fellow of Wolfson College, Oxford, developed the concept, case study, and moderated the workshop. 17 participants from 11 countries actively listened to the lectures given by 10 experts from a number of institutions (Hungarian National Bank, Bank for International Settlements, International Monetary Fund, European Commission, Bank of Slovenia, Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, Austrian National Bank) and applied their theoretical knowledge through the Monetaria Case Study.

The workshop familiarized participants with a broad range of central banking topics, set from the specific perspective of the EU convergence process: Inflation Targeting, Central Banking and the Acquis Communautaire, Payments Systems Made Easy, Convergence and Inflation, Managing Market Operations, Policy Mix Changes in South East Europe, Supervision without Frontiers, Taking the Stress Out of Stress Tests, Current Financial Crisis and more.

″Very high level of spokesmen exceeded my expectations, program of the workshop was also very well balanced and organization, logistics was perfect, ″ commented one of the participants. Another participant said: ″Interactive communication was excellent, workshop was based on practical work of study case of Monetaria, and I found it very useful.″

The workshop will again take place in 2009 after taking into consideration all feedback that the CEF received from the workshop participants.
