"The discussion of pension reform in aging societies is moving from a mere focus on fiscal issues to how to make people work longer and especially how to enable them to do so. This creates a challenge for pension benefit design but also for the reform of labor and financial market institutions."

Robert Holzmann,
Director of the Social Protection Unit,
Human Development Network, the World Bank

The Center of Excellence in Finance is announcing the International Forum on Pension Reform: Exploring the Link to Labor and Financial Market Reforms. It will take place from June 7 to June 9, 2007 at the Golf Hotel in Bled, Slovenia.

The Forum is an initiative of the Center of Excellence in Finance (CEF) and will be delivered in a close cooperation with Robert Holzmann of the World Bank and the Slovenian experts.

Many of the world leading experts (from the World Bank, IMF, OECD, the European Commission, the Brookings Institution, and more) have already confirmed their participation. They will explore the various reform needs of pension systems in an aging society that are stressed by many pressures, including globalization, and require parallel reforms of labor and financial markets. These experts will have the opportunity to present their views, discuss ideas, and exchange experiences.

Ministers of Finance, Ministers of Labor/Social Affairs and Central Bank Governors from CEF member countries have already been invited to actively participate at the Forum and some have already confirmed their participation.

The Forum is expected to make a significant contribution to the discussions on pension reform and promises attention beyond the boundaries of the region.

Please note that space at the Forum is limited. The applications will be taken on a first-come-first-served basis. The deadline to register is Monday, May 7, 2007.
