What you will learn

Nowadays it is essential that auditors are familiar with information technology (IT) risks, controls and techniques they can apply to check compliance of IT systems with regulations, standards and good practice.

The International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) defines IT audit as a process of collecting and evaluating evidence to determine whether a computer system has been designed to maintain data integrity and safeguard assets, and whether it allows organizational goals to be achieved effectively, and resources used efficiently. IT audits are applied to improve reliability of operations and processes, and to maintain the overall performance of the organizations in the public sector.

The main objective of this workshop is to familiarize participants with underlying principles and standards, methodology and stages of IT audit execution.

During this workshop we will discuss the following topics:

IT risks analysis and internal controls
Principles, standards, and types of IT audit
IT audit approaches and techniques
IT audit stages: planning, performing and reporting.

How you will benefit

The two-day training in the workshop format, facilitated by two experts from Slovenian private and public sectors, will be based on practical examples and concrete experiences. Short theoretical presentations will be followed by group work exercises based on real examples from the public sector. This workshop will focus on developing participants’ capacities in IT audit and will allow them to apply the acquired knowledge in their daily work.

After the workshop participants will be able to:

Explain principles and types of IT audit
Identify modern approaches to IT audit
Illustrate the process of IT auditing
Conduct techniques of IT audit
Implement stages of auditing (planning, performing and reporting) through practicing them on real cases.

Who should attend

The workshop has been designed primarily for IT auditors working in the public sector organizations. This workshop is also recommended for (internal and external) auditors, controllers, financial, quality and IT managers, IT project leaders, system analysts, and supervisors.

Your contributions

The workshop will be highly participatory. Participants will have the opportunity to share experience and knowledge.

Language of the course will be ENGLISH. Translation will not be provided.

Faculty

Irena Andolšek, CISA, CISM, Certified IS auditor (Slovenian State Licence)

Irena Andolšek has numerous years of experience in information systems audit in private and public sectors (internal and external audit), information technology (management of IT, development and implementation of software, business continuity planning, information security etc.), project management and business area. She works for IAS, IT revizija in svetovanje.

Anica Bratanič Grandovec, Certified State Auditor, Certified Internal State Auditor, CISA

Anica Bratanič Grandovec has been working for the Court of Audit of the Republic of Slovenia since 1999. She started as head of IT department and later continued as IT auditor. She has also worked as system and database administrator and has participated in large IT projects. She holds a BSc in mathematics and is a certified state auditor, certified internal state auditor and CISA.

Borut Likar, CISA, CGEIT, Certified IS auditor (Slovenian State Licence)

Borut Likar is internationally experienced business/IT professional (executive, manager, leader, project manager, consultant & auditor) with a strong background in international mobile telecommunications, banking & industry. He is specialized in IST (Information Services & Technologies) strategy, optimization, integration, cost-cutting, leading, business processes restructuring & reorganization, SLA’s, business continuity planning and disaster recovery. He is engaged as auditor in the Balkan and Gulf region for mobile operators. He also acts as an IST auditor in the banking industry sector in Slovenia. He holds MBA and B.Sc. in Informatics & B.Sc. in Geodetic Engineering. He operates through IC MCA Network.
