Roundtable Discussion on the Value of Motor Third Party Liability Insurance

Feb 15, 2013

The Center of Excellence in Finance (CEF) and the Insurance Supervision Agency of Slovenia (ISA) have invited high-level officials of ministries of finance, insurance supervisory authorities, and insurance companies in Western Balkan countries to share their views and experiences on the liberalization of the motor third party liability (MTPL) insurance with the representatives from several international organizations.

Motor insurance is probably the most important type of insurance sold, as its premium represents the biggest share of all non-life insurance premium income (from 50 to 80% in countries of the Western Balkans). Participants will discuss the challenges that countries are facing in their efforts to deregulate the insurance market as well as the requirements for setting up a transparent, efficient, and equitably run MTPL system. They will also examine the implications of setting up a free market for MTPL insurance, as experiences show that a free market is the best way to generate efficiency in this field.

The roundtable discussion will be held on April 4 -5, 2013, at the CEF. For more information, please contact Senka Maver at senka.maver@cef-see.org.
