About this learning event
It can be expected that the rapid changes seen in recent years in payment instruments and in payment and securities settlement infrastructure will continue in the future.
This workshop provides an overview of the main developments within the wholesale European payments and securities settlement systems, oversight on these systems and latest developments. The event also focuses on the monetary policy framework and the implementation within the relevant systems.

Jaap Mauritz, Senior Policy Advisor, Payment Systems Policy Department, De Nederlandsche Bank, The Netherlands
Jaap has worked at the De Nederlandsche Bank for more than 35 years.
This is his background information in more detail:
- 1976 - 1982: Accounting department.
- 1982 - 1992: ICT-Project manager.
- 1992 - 1998: Head of Payments systems and Back-office.
- 1998 - 2004: Head of Payments systems (TARGET).
- 2004 - 2008: Head of Back-office and Collateral Management (CCBM).
Currently, Jaap is a Senior Policy Advisor with main area of interest: the securities infrastructure. Jaap is the chair of the National User Group on TARGET2Securites and member of the Dutch Advisory Committee on Securities Industries, Dutch Working Group on Liquidity Management and the COGESI.
Mieke Wennekes, Senior Overseer, Oversight Department, Cash and Payment Systems Division, De Nederlandsche Bank, The Netherlands
Mieke Wennekes was educated at the Free University of Amsterdam (Business Administration) and the University of Amsterdam (Tax Law). Mieke has worked in several risk management functions in the banking sector before joining the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets and later De Nederlandsche Bank, first as a policy advisor and later as an overseer.
Mieke is currently working as a senior overseer with a focus on the oversight on clearing and settlement. She is among others responsible for the oversight on EMCF and HCH, the Dutch CCPs and LCH.Clearnet. Furthermore, she is involved in the oversight on Euroclear and contributes to the work of developing standards for CCPs within EMIR, the work on CPSS-IOSCO Principles for Financial Market Infrastructures and the Working Group on Margining Requirements.
