Linking the EU Strategy for the Danube Region and the Danube Transnational Programme

Apr 25, 2013

The legislative package for the next EU multiannual financial framework for 2014–2020 established a new transnational program for the Danube region as part of the European Territorial Cooperation Programme (ETC). The new Danube Transnational Programme will cover the same regions as the macro-regional EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR). Thus the priority area coordinators as key stakeholders participate actively in the consultation process to determine the objectives of the new program.

To integrate the goals of the EUSDR and the priorities of the Danube Transnational Programme, the CEF as the priority area coordinator for institutional capacity and cooperation will host a joint meeting of all EUSDR priority area coordinators and the ETC Danube Programme Task Force. The meeting, organized jointly with the DG Regio and Interact, will be held on May 21, 2013 in Ljubljana.

About the EU Strategy for the Danube Region

The European Union Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR) is a macro-regional strategy adopted by the European Commission in 2010 and endorsed by the European Council in 2011. The strategy was designed to take advantage of synergies and coordination between existing policies and initiatives across the Danube region and thus improve connectivity within the region as well as with the rest of Europe. As part of the EUSDR, the CEF and the City of Vienna are coordinators of institutional capacity and cooperation, one of the eleven priority areas of the strategy. Further information on the EUSDR.
