Building Confidence for Public Sector Leadership
Boris Košpić reflects on his experience within the WeCoach component of the EU-funded WeLead: EU Scheme for Young Professionals in the Western Balkans project. In his reflection, he shares how the coaching process provided a dedicated space for reflection and personal growth, helping him better understand his leadership style, strengthen his strategic thinking, and navigate complex professional challenges with greater confidence. He also highlights how coaching enhanced his ability to contribute to public administration reform and the EU accession process through more intentional, collaborative, and resilient leadership.
"Coaching has been a meaningful and transformative experience for me. It created a dedicated space for reflection, helping me step back from daily responsibilities, gain clarity, and focus on intentional personal and professional growth.
One of the greatest benefits of the coaching process was the opportunity for guided self-discovery. Through thought-provoking conversations, I developed a deeper understanding of my strengths, values, and leadership style. Coaching challenged me to question my assumptions, sharpen my goals, and approach complex situations with greater confidence and strategic perspective.
As a result, I strengthened my decision-making skills, improved my ability to communicate clearly, and became more aware of how my actions influence those around me. It also reinforced the importance of thoughtful leadership built on self-awareness, adaptability, and continuous learning.
In the context of policymaking, public administration reform, and the European Union accession process, coaching enhanced my capacity for critical thinking, stakeholder engagement, and long-term strategic planning. These are essential capabilities in environments where meaningful reform requires collaboration, accountability, and the ability to navigate complexity.
Looking back, coaching has helped me become a more intentional, focused, and resilient leader. Its impact goes well beyond my individual development. It has shaped how I contribute to my team, my institution, and broader reform efforts. It is an experience that will continue to influence the way I lead and support change in the years ahead."
