ABOUT THIS LEARNING EVENT

As audit planning is the audit phase in which auditors can best influence final audit results it is clear that this phase is essential for ensuring an effective audit. This online course will guide participants through the stages of planning for individual engagement assignment. It will examine how to identify and conduct a preliminary assessment of the risks associated with the activity under review. It will also address the question of how to approach and determine the engagement’s objectives and scope, so that they reflect both the probability of errors, fraud, non-compliance and the results of the assessment. Special attention will be put on the practical applications of the IIA Performance Standards 2200 to 2240.

Through webinars, assignments, group discussions, this online course will cover a range of topics, including:

  • international standards pertaining to planning internal audit engagements
  • engagement planning steps
  • risk-based auditing
  • risk assessment
  • the responsibilities of auditor for fraud
  • preparing an audit engagement  plan and audit program

By the end of the learning initiative, participants will have:

  • gained insights into how audit planning can bring organization’s management better options for deriving value to its stakeholders
  • learned about possible approaches of information gathering
  • discussed how to approach preliminary assessment of relevant risks and address potential risk scenarios
  • practiced how to properly form objectives of an engagement
  • discussed how to establish scope of an engagement
  • looked in to possible approaches how to produce an audit plan that ensures that the right areas are covered by the right people with the right tools and methods at the right time.

Who should attend

The course has been primarily designed for public sector internal auditors with fewer than two years of experience to learn about the fundamentals of planning engagements in line with internationally accepted internal auditing standards.

Participants are expected to take an active part in the course activities. The success of the initiative is directly dependent on the participants’ active engagement. 

In view of the interactive nature of the event, it will be helpful if participants have a good command of the English language.

Practical Information

No fee will be charged for officials working in the public sector. Candidates will need to be approved by the CEF. 

This online course will be delivered through the CEF Online Learning Campus. The envisaged workload for the participants is about 5 hours per week. It will feature three webinars, as well as self-paced study of videos and reading resources, one assignment, and peer-to-peer discussion.
