October is the Month of the CEF – Happy 15th Anniversary!

This October we are celebrating 15 years of our successful operation. The CEF was established in 2001, under the Stability Pact for South East Europe (SEE) by the Slovenian Government at the initiative of the Slovenian Ministry of Finance and in close cooperation with other ministries of finance of the Western Balkans countries.

In 2015, we changed our legal status and the CEF became an international organization after more than a decade serving as a knowledge hub in public financial management and central banking for the region.

We are celebrating our anniversary by highlighting some interesting moments from the CEF’s history as a photo display in our lobby and also sharing them on our website and social media accounts.

Some interesting facts about the CEF:

  • The number of participants attending our learning events per year has risen by more than ten times over the past fifteen years. In the first year, we had 109 participants, while in 2015 this number reached 1,205. Our program has grown significantly as the demand for capacity development in the region has increased.
  • In 2001, five learning events were delivered. In the last years, the CEF has been managing around 60–70 learning events yearly.
  • Our working and learning space has increased by more than two times since 2001.
  • The CEF started with three employees in 2001; currently it employs 25 people.
  • Initially, six constituency members from the SEE formed the CEF’s geographical focus. Today, the CEF’s constituency consists of 12 SEE countries.
  • Three IMF regional advisers are based at our premises, using the CEF as hub for their SEE missions.
