Strengthening Leadership and Self-Awareness Through Coaching
As part of the WeLead project, funded by the European Union, Stefan Dimanovski from the Financial Police Office in North Macedonia engaged in a coaching journey that provided valuable space for reflection, growth, and self-discovery. This reflection captures how coaching supported his personal and professional development, the process of learning and self-discovery he underwent, and the key insights and capabilities he gained. It highlights how this experience has strengthened his leadership approach and enhanced his ability to contribute effectively to complex environments such as policymaking and public administration reform.
"My coaching journey has been a deeply meaningful and impactful experience. Over the course of six to seven sessions, I developed greater self-awareness and gained practical tools that helped me better understand my patterns, reactions, and leadership style. Through topics such as self-saboteurs and Positive Intelligence, leadership, assertiveness, and overthinking, coaching supported me in becoming more intentional, focused, and confident in both my work and personal interactions.
The process of learning and self-discovery was gradual and reflective. Each session created a safe space to pause, question my assumptions, and explore alternative ways of thinking and responding. I became more aware of how internal narratives influence decision-making and learned to shift from reactive behavior toward a more constructive, solution-oriented mindset. This awareness has already resulted in clearer communication, stronger boundaries, and a more balanced approach to challenges.
The insights and capabilities I gained through coaching are directly relevant to policymaking and public administration reform. I now approach complex situations with greater clarity, emotional regulation, and openness to diverse perspectives. Strengthening my leadership presence, assertiveness, and ability to manage overthinking will support more effective collaboration, thoughtful decision-making, and resilience in demanding environments such as EU accession-related work.
Overall, coaching has helped me build a stronger internal compass, increased my confidence in navigating complexity, and provided tools that I will continue to use long after the program has ended."
