CEF Coordinators Discuss Their Role in Advancing Sustainable Governance
From October 1 to 3, 2024, the bi-annual meeting of CEF Coordinators took place in Zagreb, Croatia, bringing together human resources professionals and regional representatives from ministries of finance, tax administrations, and central banks from our constituency. These professionals, responsible for capacity development and strategic management of human capital, met to discuss future priorities and strengthen their role in shaping sustainable, learning-oriented public institutions. The meeting is a key part of CEF governance, helping us align with our Strategic Direction 2022-2026, which aims to support the transformation of public institutions into learning organizations.
Participants engaged in dynamic discussions aimed at moving the CEF Coordinators' network from isolated projects to a more cohesive collaborative ecosystem. The event featured sessions on building trust, co-creation of learning initiatives, and agile governance for a sustainable future, pushing the boundaries of human capital development and institutional transformation.
Keynote presentations were delivered by several distinguished speakers, including Michael Faulend, Vice Governor of the Hrvatska narodna banka, Danijela Stepić, Chief State Treasurer of Croatia, Uroš Vajgl, State Secretary at Slovenia’s Ministry of the Environment, and Janez Potočnik, co-chair of the UN Environment Programme’s International Resource Panel. Their insights emphasized the importance of building knowledge networks to pave the way for a more sustainable future.
Discussions also tackled pressing regional issues, including the impact of climate change and financial instability, and explored strategies for public institutions to transition towards more sustainable governance models. Participants also reflected on the challenges, identified opportunities, and set priorities for future collaboration. The event ended on a high note, with a strong commitment to advancing sustainable governance and building the capacity of public institutions through teamwork.
The meeting was delivered as part of the CEF’s Greening Human Capital of Public Institutions of the Western Balkans project, supported by the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy, the Climate Change Fund of Slovenia, the Croatian National Bank, and the Croatian Ministry of Finance. Participants left energized by the collective reflection on challenges and opportunities, with a renewed commitment to driving transformation and innovation within their institutions.
