Introducing Climate Change and Green Transition into Macroeconomic Analysis

Oct 20 – 22, 2026 Ljubljana, Slovenia No Fee

About this learning event

This workshop aims to strengthen participants’ analytical capacities and equips policymakers across central banks, ministries of finance, and ministries of environment to make informed decisions on climate and green transition. As climate and nature-related risks represent a new type of systemic threat, understanding their financial and fiscal implications is crucial. These risks can create significant disruptions for institutions and have lasting, potentially irreversible impacts.

Climate change and green transition can pose far-reaching macroeconomic consequences, affecting key sectors such as agriculture, energy, transportation and public health. Beyond potential direct physical damage, they generate transition risks such as labour market disruption, inflationary pressures from carbon pricing, as well as systemic financial risks that can destabilize public finances, banking systems and insurance markets. These compounding risks threaten long-term growth, fiscal stability and development prospects.

The workshop brings together participants from key institutions involved in this process - central banks, ministries of finance, and ministries of environment. It creates dedicated space to discuss how these institutions can cooperate on climate-related matters: how responsibilities should be distributed among them, what tools each institution uses to manage climate-related risks, and why data sharing between them matters.
